Candice Williams
My current focus is on combining the two fields (medicine and music) to make music that inspires as well as heals.
I'm Candice Williams, known as (KeyboardDoc) hailing from Los Angeles, California. My passion for making quality music and spreading joy through live performance, writing and producing and singing started during my childhood with singing in church and hearing the outstanding musicians in my family play each week. This inspired me to pursue piano lessons at an early age, where I learned classical repertoire. While my interests temporarily shifted in high school, I returned to music making in earnest during college when attending UC Berkeley where I sang in Young Inspiration Gospel Choir under the direction of Professor Silvester Henderson.
I sang on live recordings and in annual concerts with special guests such as Vesta, Melanie Daniels and Kirk Whalum. During this period I supported myself by playing Sunday services for various churches on piano. (Kids, keep up your piano lessons!!) :)
After college, I moved back to Los Angeles and played in various venues playing R&B and Gospel music. I've performed with a variety of artists such as Steve Harvey on Show Time at the Apollo West, Jon Decuir with Vessels and the Band and Session 5, CeCe Winans, TC Bereal, Sean Macklamore, Myron Butler, Jason Nelson, Jonathan Nelson and appeared on projects including “Saved” on Snoop Dogg’s “Bible of Love” which reached Billboards’ First #1 Top Gospel Album Chart.
After completing my medical education, I began studying piano under Russell Ferrante of the Yellowjackets. Under his mentorship, my playing has taken on a new shape and dimension, expanding my scope to R&B, fusion and current Jazz studies.
My nickname KeyboardDoc pays homage to my transition from being in a full time physician to a full time musician, writer and producer. I'm currently writing and producing two upcoming albums. My first project is a Christian Worship Album and the second is an Instrumental Worship Album. Recent performances include a philanthropic gala for the Rays of Light Foundation, whose mission is to support children in the foster care system. I've attended and played keyboards/organ at Hope’s House Christian Ministries for 15 years. I collaborate with artists by writing and providing instrumentation on their music projects, and provide music department consulting to church worship ministries. I also collaborate in writing, arranging and producing music with my husband and drummer Keith Williams Jr in our band, the K&C Collective.
It is my privilege to provide basic piano instruction and intermediate to advanced Gospel piano/Hammond Organ lessons. My desire is to give you a solid foundation in music making. My goals are to instill a love for music, a platform on which to build your future music skills and to let your creativity soar!
